Last night I watched “We Were Soldiers”. I had a headache and was quite tired and I didn’t get emotionally involved in it. Of course the scenes with the wives and families left behind got to me. I have spent the morning looking up the people who played a major part. Even Mrs. Julia Compton Moore. Military Spouses and Families have a lot to thank her for. Mrs. Julia C. Moore changed the way the Army did causality notifications to the families among other things. They did actually use taxi cab drivers for delivery of the telegrams. They would just hand over the telegram and leave the widow to grieve on her own. I couldn’t even imagine. Phone calls were few and far between with letters being the same. Being the wife of a deployed soldier is not easy however I am quite grateful for women like Mrs. Moore who set up so many programs for military families still in use today. The same ones many of us complain about. Myself included.
The book and the movie are not about her but luckily she does have a part, other wives are mentioned and the way housing and families really were during that time are given a small spotlight. I still haven’t read the book but I look forward to skimming it…
The movie was worth watching. Interesting that Maverick was in 1/7 before this current deployment and got to meet Mr. Joseph Galloway.

Well that’s it for now. Send a prayer for each soldier and family that loves them as I will do for all of you.
