“As My Old Pappy Would Say…”

I did not intend to only do Army Wives recaps here. My life just isn’t that interesting at the moment. I have my nephew here visiting from Nevada. The girls are on summer break as nearly every other child in the U.S. My house will be completed in three weeks and I am about 5% packed up, yikes. It is quite hard to live in a house and get ready to move it at the same time. You still have to live. I wish I could just leave it all and start over :P.

The 4th of July is approaching and Central Texas has very little to choose from as far as entertainment goes. We are not a family that reflects on how happy we are to be American, or honoring soldiers, I do that on a daily basis anyway. How much more can you do when you are married to one, you cook for his friends and help out another spouse here and there. Sure I could do more, hang a flag, slap yellow ribbons on my car yadda yadda, for now I just want a hot dog, some sparklers and some affordable gas to get me to a beach.

On an entirely different subject Maverick has a friend *T* who would like a nickname on my blog. I have never mentioned him here before because I don’t like to get personal on such a public venue, it’s usually just on LiveJournal do I mention friends and family, it’s friends only and has excellent filters. So anyway *T* would like a name. And in keeping with the spirit of Maverick, the T.V. show not Tom Cruise’s character on Top Gun, I will post part of the theme song to the old T.V. show featuring James Garner:

Who is the tall dark stranger there?
Maverick is the name.
Riding the trail to who knows where
Luck is his companion
Gamblin’ is his game.

Smooth as a handle on a gun
Maverick is the name.
Wild as a wind in Oregon
Blowin’ up a canyon
Easier to tame.

Now to continue talking about friends… I am very choosy about who I let into my life and my home. I used to try to be friends with everybody and try to ignore their oddities. However when we, Maverick and I, were younger and new to the Army Life, the oddities were a tad extreme and I have noticed as we have matured, we are less tolerable. We believe our friends should have strong stable marriages, their children should not destroy our home when they come to visit, drinking should not be the only reason we get together and drama should be at a minimum. I am happy to say that as we become older these qualities become easier to find in others, usually you do not have to look very hard. When you have to take a lot of time to see it in others, it’s probably not there and it is time to move on.

“As my old pappy used to say, it would be a pitiful thing if you had to work for a living. Son, use your wits; the Good Lord didn’t give you brains. ” - Brett Maverick

  1. Hey, I finally got mentioned on the website! I WAS thrilled; that is until i read the entire message.

Mo, it seems to me as though i don’t fit any of your requirements for friendship :-(

    1. I’m not married, 2. My children don’t destroy your house but i do, 3. I DO only come over to drink, and 4. I love drama.

And, what’s the deal with referring to me solely as Maverick’s friend? I thought WE were friends too… And i love your children and think of them as my Texas nieces. I’m heart-broken.

And, to think i brought you all gifts from the Bahamas. It looks like i’ve got a few new purses just for me now.

    *T*
